No more sagging!: Springs

1990 Toyota 4runner 22re. I bought them to replace the sagging original springs. They are much stiffer, but not overly stiff, and significantly reduce body roll. Having lived with them for several years, I would say they might be too harsh for some. If you ride a lot of unladen off-road and want maximum articulation, they may be too stiff. I noticed how tough they are when I went camping with two friends and a dog. We had over 800 pounds of passengers and the second rear seat and cargo area were filled to the brim. We were blown away and put the 22re in, but the rear suspension felt great. That's when I realized how stiff these springs are. There was no noticeable sagging and slight body roll. When I ride it empty now, I notice that it's a bit stiff. Since I don't do light packers and plan on land crawling rather than rock crawling, they're great for me. However, if you're traveling light, I would just use the spring spacers. Update: I found these springs to be too stiff compared to my OME shocks. So I bought middle rear OME springs hoping they would match the front ones. The OME springs raised the rear end about 2 inches above stock height and weren't as stiff. The chassis has become more balanced front and rear. Moogs are still good sources. 4runners up to standard height and need a stiffer ride for loads or aggressive road riding. In combination with a stiffer front torsion bar you can improve the handling of your 4runner on the road. However, if you want to raise your 4runner above the stock height without further modifications for better off-road driving and a slightly stiffer handling, then get the average OME.

Pros
  • All right!
Cons
  • Good but not great
