Two ladies I met recently were unfamiliar with the flavor that grated nutmeg imparts - I bought them a grater and used some of my nutmeg stash separately (thanks Revane, they're amazing!) Yes, when rubbing, be careful with your fingers, especially as the nut gets smaller. The taste is worth it. I'm used to it because my mother had one fifty years ago - hanging on the wall next to the coffee pot. If you like nutmeg, these graters are the easiest, cheapest, most convenient, and convenient way to get the flavor. And if you find out someone hasn't tried nutmeg, offering them a gift along with some nuts is a great icebreaker. PS: Grate the cinnamon sticks too.
