Someone bought them and makes them in Mexico and they don't seem to care if they work well. I have had another Weller soldering iron of the same type but less power since I was 14, 51 years old. Never had a single problem and works to this day. I buy a new one and it doesn't work out of the box. Damn. I'm sad that the ICONIC soldering iron scores so poorly just because of sloppy manufacturing. The coil in the gun looked great, the switch, trigger and body are rubbish. I cannot recommend any other Weller product and will never buy again. No point in sending it back, I would have received the same bad quality next time.
