Could the stand be defective? I tried to insert this post and when I loosened both brackets with a screwdriver the bracket somehow went back into the cavity preventing me from even inserting the post. I tried unsuccessfully to remove the clip and now the hole was blocked by this clip preventing it from attaching. It looked like a solid stand, but I may have received a defective product. I will return my item as soon as possible. When I first received the item it seemed solid, sad I can't use it. I'm not sure if this is a common occurrence, but just something for you as a potential buyer to be aware of.
