When you need to work with clay (especially in tight places), using an SDS-Max hammer makes your job easier. Sometimes you can dig near a house, under a house, even next to utility lines, and you can risk just brushing off with a pick/axe and the shovel won't really get in. It has become an indispensable tool. I've had no problems with clay sticking to the shovel and I haven't found any instances of the shovel causing damage. They seem like the perfect combination of speed and security - why risk damage if you don't have to. The shovel is wide enough that as long as you don't use a hammer that's too big, you should be able to separate the clay from the block foundation without cracking or cracking the block. It has increased productivity more than any other tool I have used for digging. The only way to improve this shovel is to lengthen the shaft a bit.
