FIRST: The video was in a hurry because it was literally 7 degrees outside, sorry for the quality of the video loading) and more: Yes, my car is dirty in the video -_- I usually keep it clean, but I just got back from a ski trip and they just salted the streets. Life in New England is an adventure! I need to clean inside and out (including the engine and everything under the hood) once the outside temperature gets a little over 7 degrees (F) x_xWHAT YOU NEED FOR INSTALLATION:- New air filter.- Suggestion: Bring some water mixed with dish soap and paper towels. Your hands will get dirty and that grime will end up everywhere if you don't wipe it off quickly. - NO TOOLS NEEDED! INSTRUCTIONS (2012 Hyundai Elantra - most likely also applies to some newer Hyundai Elantra) - all steps are also shown in the video: 1. Open the hood (little lever next to the driver's door, just under the steering wheel and all. There will be a picture of an open have bonnet).2. Reach the hood all the way forward, you will feel a small metal lever. Pull this lever up and the hood will open.3. Support the hood with a rod that goes through the left side (snaps in and out) - insert it into the appropriate hole on the underside of the hood and slide until it snaps into place.4. On the driver's side, next to the engine, you'll see a box about the same length and width as the filter (but much thicker/higher).5. Pull the metal clips away from this box (see video) and it just pops open - no tools required! 6. Remove the old filter and insert the new one in the same direction.7. Close the lid and replace the metal clips - make sure the tabs on the lid (opposite side of the clips) fit into the corresponding holes (see video).8. Push the bar holding the hood back to its original position and lower the hood to close it. A NOTICE. You can lower the hood like in the video (like all mechanics - that's what it's designed for) or you can gently close it and then press down firmly to latch. It's generally safer to drop it and push hard. And then try opening it again (without pulling the hood release lever) just to make sure it's properly closed. BAMM! DONE! The entire process can be completed in less than 60 seconds if you know what you're doing, and the mechanics can charge you $40-$80 for this simple task! Don't get ripped off! Do it yourself! I hope you find this video and guide useful :) Now for the performance boost (after replacing your dirty filter with this one): So. Apparently I really needed it! I'm getting about 2/3 the gas mileage and power I'm used to from my 2012 Hyundai Elantra so I've started checking things out. Everything looked fine until I got to my engine's air filter. which was absolutely filthy (as you can see in the video)! I got about 25-30mpg on the freeway at 55-65mph before replacing it. After swapping: 37-42 mpg while 55-65 (varies with wind conditions)! THIS IS HUGE! I knew the air filter could make a difference, but I guess I didn't realize HOW much of a difference it could make. I mean. WOW. It drives like new again! My car also seems to have MUCH more power! I mean I think it makes a difference as it has more power as it lets more air into the engine but wow I didn't know it would make such a big difference :o Also worth mentioning is that air filter about twice as thick as the original Hyundai but the box that the air filter fits in seems designed for thicker air filters so it still fits perfectly. And I believe that the extra thickness allows more air to flow into the engine (okay) :D Conclusion: I am very happy with this purchase :) Made my car brand new again. and next time I'll be smart enough to check the motor filter first!
