Review on Lutron PD-15OUT-BL Smart Plug for Outdoors in Black by Brent Porter

Control my outdoor landscape lighting. I have a lot of Lutron Caseta at home and it fits my smart home system very well. It was quickly added to my Lutron app. I use the Lutron app to control all of my outdoor lighting on a sunrise and sunset schedule. I don't integrate it with Alexa as the lights don't need to be controlled via the Alexa app, but it would be easy to add, like my other Caseta devices. There are two impressive things about this device. First, it's well built and seems to last a long time outdoors. Second is the range. This is not a WiFi device, it uses a 900MHz frequency which has better penetration than a 2.4GHz signal. At first I thought that I would have to install this device outside the house between the socket and the 12V transformer. But I figured it would fit in the door of a transformer (I use a 150w Volt transformer and it's a 100% stainless steel case). This greatly simplified installation and secured the device in the lockable transformer. My Lutron Hub is in a closet. There are 4 inner walls, a brick outer wall and a full stainless steel case around the switch and it works great. That's about 40 feet between the hub and the switch. I also tried plugging it into an outlet in the backyard, further away from the hub and possibly another wall, and it still worked. Yes, this switch is relatively expensive. But all the Lutron Caseta's I've bought are of the highest quality. It's reliable and I don't send a command through any server halfway around the world to turn the light on or off. This syncs my landscape lights with my porch lights and garage lights. They turn on and off at the same time and I didn't have to add another system to my smart home. I've removed all WiFi connected devices from my home, so I was excited when Lutron posted this. I bought a second block for the backyard.
