My setup is a 2017 iMac with macOS 10.14.5. After doing some testing with both powered and non-powered USB3 hubs, I found that the stable connection for my needs was the USB3 port on the back of the iMac (works on a powered hub, but my cat kept playing with it ). Worked great burning a DVD with Toast 17 (stop laughing) and playing the DVD with the new Apple DVD Player. The writing speed has reached 8X, which is twice the speed of older DVD recorders with USB2 ports. I had a few questions for tech support and the answers came right away. If I could rate this 6 stars I would.
