Review on πŸ› Premium 8in x 14in EZ-NICHES USA - Small Rectangular Niche - Preformed Recessed Shampoo Shower Wall Shelf for Tiling by Christine Noland

Very poor adhesion to resin mortar and surface too flat to reach opposing drywall

This product has two fatal defects, two breaking the rules. First is the depth of the niche. I have previously used a different product in my master bathroom. The depth of this product was such that it could be inserted into the rack bay and reached the drywall on the other side, providing a solid surface for support. EZ niches are not all the same size. When installing a cement board on standard 2x4 studs, the depth of the niche will not reach the drywall on the other side of the studs. Instead there was a gap, maybe 1/4 inch or more. Based on my previous experience I assumed that's how the EZ niches are designed and didn't bother to check the spacing. Because these niches are made of thin-walled plastic. the plastic will bend. The back of the two EZ niches I installed bowed slightly. Now, if you lay ceramic tiles that cover the edges, you will not have a problem. Many people install glass mosaics in alcoves to serve as accents on simpler field tiles. I have also done this. My solution was to drill holes in the drywall from the other side and fill the gap with styrofoam insulation from a can. That thin layer just doesn't stick to that plastic. I used thin film enriched with Mepei polymer. Alpinebay recommends this type of thin skin, claiming you'll achieve "strong grip". It's not like this! a long extensive renovation of my baby bathroom almost complete. I noticed that the glass mosaic tile on the back of the niche was not glued despite using the right type and amount of fine paste. I cut out the non-adhesive part, but when I pulled it out it became apparent that none of the mosaics were sticking properly. All of this is easy to pull out. To top it off, one of the tiles just fell off all around the perimeter, a ceramic butt plate. I have a second niche under this one and am afraid none of my tiles have "strong grip" and will fall off at some point in the near future. Because I can't remove them because I've already mounted and filled the entire edge of the tub. , I have to come up with an alternative solution. Luckily I still have a few mosaic sheets left, although I think I've run out of ceramic stick. I tend to use some sort of rubber glue or maybe Loctite's Powergrab which is available as a sealant. I contacted the manufacturer to get an answer. I cannot recommend this product.
