The gold color matches the door handle and lock on the door. I rent. The door was painted so many times and the edges of the peephole that it was not possible to install it as advertised. I used Loctite super glue to install it around the peephole. At first it seemed fragile or delicate, but after a few days it became strong and hard. I think the glue actually soaked into the paint and made it stronger. It sticks out of the door a bit...there is a small gap between the ring and the cover when it's closed. Thanks to the gap, the lid will not damage anything that opens and closes. In the photos I upload you can see I put some glue on the right side of the ring. It works great. It's so nice to not have to worry about people peeking in the apartment anymore. Yes!
