We use real cans of all sizes to freeze food, store muesli, cereals and sauces, mix juices and teas, etc. We have moved away from plastic storage containers due to their toxicity, environmental impact and staining. We now have many jar rings and flat lids that can be washed in the dishwasher along with the jars. Our new toddler sized Prince the Lionheart dishwashing basket is perfect for lids, dog toys and other odd or small items like measuring spoons, shot glasses and the like that can fall through shelves. It fits well on the top shelf as the REAL bottom width is 3.5 inches, not the listed 5 or 5.5 inches. The plastic looks fine to me. It's not brittle like many kitchen gadgets and is made in the USA. definitely recommend!
