Does NOT do ANY of what I bought it for for the dumbest of reasons

Looks like you can use it to stream video from your console or something. Although I haven't had any luck with any of the purposes I bought it for. And it just seems like it could be very easy to fix something so simple on hardware that seems to get updated very frequently. I was just disappointed. At first I wanted to use it for a passport. I figured I could use my laptop as a monitor to play game consoles with pass-through when I'm on the go. I've tried this with other cheaper cards that ended up breaking, but as long as they didn't break they worked fine through pass-through. The quality isn't great, but that's to be expected. Bought it, quality looks good but the 6 second delay for console input before it shows up on screen means it will NEVER be possible. They say it's because of the AV to HDMI conversion, although it worked fine with cheaper cards. It's impossible to disable something where this delay doesn't matter. Still, I don't even need to buy an HD upscaler to use it with AV output. He has his own hints for that! I know that scaling can have a lag; That's why HDTV has a game mode. It eliminates lag in exchange for slightly less colorful but barely noticeable changes to the image. Impossible to get this to work via pass-through just because of this tiny bug. I was okay with this because I actually bought it to record VHS tapes. Everything seemed to work fine on cheaper capture cards, except for the fact that there are no settings to sync the I/O frame rate and quality, resulting in a smaller image. I was glad to see you can do this with a more expensive one. Problem? If the VHS tape you are using flickers ANYTHING, the capture card will stop receiving for a full 6 seconds and this is CONTINUOUSLY happening. This makes it impossible to copy VHS tapes. There is absolutely no way to record it and just persistently record what I need. I don't even write to the capture card; I use Bandicam as soon as it connects to my screen. It's also impossible to stop showing the menu, so I can't just show the video after it's taken. And even then, even though the video is 60fps/720p and the settings are set to record 60fps/720p, it still doesn't show 60fps. Everyone says buy another capture card. Not because this one is bad or anything; they can't explain why. But not only do I not have more money to spend, this is my third capture card that I've tried and spending more only makes the problem worse. I just want to copy basic BASIC home VHS videos at the same frame rate they were recorded at. I can edit the aspect ratio and color in the post; I just want to take the damn shots. I thought about only using it for streaming when/if I get to that point, but that was really only the third reason to buy it. For something this expensive, there really shouldn't be a problem making something this simple. It seems that technology is creating its own artificial problems at the moment.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors
