Rinse the tank/filter screen first! And don't whine!
Dish soap and thorough rinsing after removing the container will fix most problems with this type of power steering system. Hoses should be checked for leaks every few years. The pump should run for a while when maintaining the system by changing the fluid and cleaning the filter if it is dirty or the pump is making noise.
