Another reviewer complained that they are plastic. This is some nonsense! They are durable enough for gaskets, especially with a steel backing plate to take the brunt of each flex. You certainly don't want something that can push out the hole you're pressing the gasket into. I think these plastic rims are ideal as they need to be softer than even aluminum if a puncture or seal is to fail. However, if you have the correct size(s) and are riding straight, this should not be a problem. However, I like the safety factor. I would rather replace this whole kit than what the seal comes with. The instructions (always) call for the use of a backup washer, followed by a washer that is slightly smaller than the OD of your gasket, followed by another slightly smaller washer that fits the gasket. The larger size drives and the smaller size helps straighten the seal which is very helpful. Benefits: * Wide range of disc sizes made from durable plastic with a steel handle and support disc. They don't seem to have any regularity in step size. They are probably intended for sigils that actually exist, not those that may exist now or someday.* The price is right. When in doubt, just buy; You will probably be lucky enough. Cons: * Lisle needs to post custom sizes. (I'd be here, but who says Lisle wouldn't change the kit? In fact, judging by the skin-tight packaging, they might already have.) *Only 3 discs are for shielded seals. Perhaps they covered every size that actually exists; maybe they don't have it. These discs are about twice as thick and recessed on one side, allowing you to press around the perimeter with just a ring about 3/16 inch wide. (See below for more on this). an injection molding process that must be cut and sanded to a smooth finish. You don't want those burrs to ruin your new gasket. This is easy to do but not necessary. Protective Gaskets: If you are unfamiliar with them, they have a flexible cone on the outside that acts as a dust cover and will likely fit into a CV joint groove or something. This is a great idea, but adds complexity if you don't have the right driver. They can be flexible enough to lie flat on the main body of the seal while driving, which can add almost a millimeter to the surface, you could drive flush. If like me you just spent $20 on a seal and ripped apart a 5- Link Suspension To make an axle seal, you really shouldn't stress the seal without a special tool for the job. The Eded was $450 and the pen was extra!
