I bought this mainly for items that can hold up to 4 colors at a time. I haven't tried all the shapes yet. To help you keep yarn handy, the snake shape has proven to be the best so far. However, if you need to move the product onto the needles, you will have to unwind the thread on the zipper and throw it away. I am not sure if there is a difference in crochet. I don't have a crochet project right now. I suspect it will get better. I might just need to play with it more to see if it smooths out, but I would say at this point that it's more of a hindrance than a help when knitting.
