Review on πŸ”Œ BYGD 500W Car Power Inverter: Versatile DC 12V to 110V AC Converter with Dual Outlets, 4 USB Ports and 3.1A Car Charger Adapter by Gilbert Pfaff

Voltage Sensitive - Works great with car batteries, but not so well with external batteries

Charge a few phones, turn on the lights and watch TV. All this is less than 300 watts, so there should be enough power in this device - in continuous operation it is 500 watts. However, I tested this at my workplace using a large external auto-starter with two LEDs drawing 25 watts each, a figure I confirmed with a Kill-A-Watt power meter. The 500W BYGD car inverter turns on one of the lights with no issues or complaints, but turning on the second light sets off a shrill alarm which seems to me to indicate low battery voltage. As you add more load, the voltage will continue to drop and the light will go out. With only two 25 watt bulbs, both worked perfectly. But I couldn't stand this loud beep for a long time. I tested the 500W BYGD car inverter on my car and it worked great with the car battery no matter the car was running or not. I was able to run a 350w unit with no complaints about the inverter. (I used alligator clips to connect the inverter to the car battery.) So a 500W BYGD car inverter is definitely supplying power from a powerful battery whose voltage does not drop when a load is connected to the inverter. After I posted my first two star review here on Revain, the company contacted me (through Revain) and arranged for me to get a new device. In the meantime I have sent my original device back to Revain and received a refund. So the new inverter that BYGD sent was absolutely free for me. I work the same as the first unit I had, so they're consistent - they turn on a high-pitched beep when I'm using an external battery (see photo of my setup), but work great with a car battery. Overall the design and performance of the BYGD 500W car inverter looks good and it was sold at a great price. I'm impressed that it delivers good performance from a car battery, but disappointed that it's sensitive to input voltage. However, the company is excellent and really stands behind their products. I'm increasing my rating from two to four stars. If I could get 100W from a 500W BYGD car inverter when connected to an external battery jumper, I would get five stars.
