Review on πŸ“¦ Geekworm NASPi 2.5 inch SATA HDD/SSD NAS Storage Kit for Raspberry Pi 4 Model B (Raspberry Pi 4 Not Included) by Enrique Espinoza

Mediocre performance, needs design changes

Update: I do not recommend this case. The Deskpi Pro just came out and seems to be pretty much the same case but with big design changes like an efficient fan with a real heatsink. It's the same price and the ability to download from m.2. First I would like to say that the seller sent me an email asking me to leave a review even before the case arrived. I understand that they want to improve the product. Thanks very much! The case itself requires some design changes as mentioned in several other reviews. Heat is an annoying problem. The fan that sits above the Pi seems pretty good, but it's hampered by the lack of a heatsink to collect heat from the chips on the Pi, and the fan doesn't come out anywhere. Only about 20% of the fan covers the cutout at the top of the case. It doesn't make much sense and in general more holes could be used. After setting the fan constant at 90%, the Pi runs at 50+c. I removed the front and back of the case and was able to get it down to 46c. Wi-Fi performance is mediocre but there. I could get a bad connection at about 15 feet away. I run this Pi connected to the network. I am satisfied with this case, despite its shortcomings. I don't care if I had to remove the front/back panel as I'm storing it in a situation where I can't see it. The best part is that it combines SSD and Pi in one nice package and powers the SSD so I can boot from it.
