Used one for the floor hatch, the door worked great!

We built a trap door to cover the hole in our attic that leads to the stairs. We needed something that would help the hatch open when you're walking up the stairs, but allow it to close completely when the hatch is closed. You might think that finding the right stand, support, lift, etc. would be a simple search. No. It's been an awful search trying to figure out which one is the best. They want you to have all the information. For example: how much does the sunroof weigh, how much force is required, what is the angle of inclination, etc. All sorts of numbers that just stunned me! Finally we took the risk. Important for us: We needed to know how big the space is where the rack will stand with the hatch door closed (fully depressed size). So the opening of our "hole" (where the strut goes) is the "pressed strut size". We left about 6 inches to give us room for error. [This is called the "compressed length" the spacer should be - it's 300mm (11.8 inches)] What is the longest size we could use when the hatch door is open? We attached the thick part to the channel door and the thin part of the pole to the frame of our opening. When the stem is fully extended, its length is 19.7 inches (500mm). Again, we left a small margin for error. We haven't weighed the door now, but I'm guessing it weighs about 50 pounds. I have no ideal of how much effort it takes to open and keep it open. but it worked great. There are two in the pack (I thought it was great in case we need an extra one or one breaks). We only used one of these on the hatch door and it works perfectly. You barely push (or pull) on it, then the stand does the rest of the work, lifting it up and then holding it open until you push (or pull) to close it (which doesn't require much pressure either). We now have a backup in case this wears out. Have used it many times and so far so good! When you mount it it should be in the fully open mode and straight up and down (this means the brackets should be right across from each other. We mounted the top of the jamb to the door and lined up where it would fall on the bottom frame would the bottom opening. Once installed it slides in easily (but you can't push them in by hand - we've tried) Types of mounts - some with edges etc. This one is flat allowing for perfect placement where we they need which we installed on top of the hatch, but also piano hinges can be used in his bedroom (in the attic) could have "surveillance" to see who wants. You can also just paste if you like. I hope this review helps someone avoid all the annoyances we experienced trying to figure this out!
