Even if it is below the supply source, the pump will have difficulty priming.
The pump had very poor suction (even when the pump was under a light oil well). The pump had zero output at 10 feet. Just a trickle at 6 feet. 50 gallons was pumped in 6 hours so we switched to a small mud pump which pumped the rest of the oil (200 gallons) in less than 3 hours!
