Review on Neiko 10178A Cobalt Coated Steel 16 Inch by Michael Boyce

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Fair price for a decent set. Not strong enough for steel.

They offer good value for money. However: They will not outperform more expensive quality drills. Sorry, there is no bargain here because the big brands just rip you off. You get what you pay for. This is advertised a bit with the fact that it is cobalt. You can find traces of cobalt in it, but that's not much use. They will go through anything harder than wood but NOT steel. Aluminum and other soft metals at their finest. They're actually not that bad for plastic if you sand the edges a bit. Something you probably wouldn't do with expensive beats. I don't recommend them for soft materials as they don't have a locating pin and aren't sharp enough to cut through fibrous structures. I have an Irwin set that I bought in the big market for $15 more and it works great on steel. So if we're talking about saving money, I think $15-$25 is about the amount you have to pay to get a much better set. The box is beautiful. If desired, you can remove the inscription with alcohol. I've always liked metal cases because drill bits are easier to take out and put back in. Plastic cases are easier to transport because they don't rattle or open on their own. Something a lot of tin cans do.
