Review on Creative Mark Midnight Drawing Metallic by Amanda Castillo

Revainrating 5 out of 5

after all! excellent (smooth and durable) black paper for gouache and metallic watercolor

I am very satisfied with this paper. I've been looking for years for quality black paper that will stand up to gouache and metallic watercolors (especially Finetec inks), won't warp too much, won't bleed in paint, won't absorb paint to the point of dulling, and won't cost an arm and no leg. . That's it! It's a smooth, durable paper, although not as thick or absorbent as watercolor paper, but it holds up well on creamy layers, which is about the consistency of your gouache/metallic paint if you want it to be opaque. . This is a deep REAL black. Colors appear vibrant on this paper and metallics DO NOT lose their luster. I know there are black watercolor papers on the market (I have two types) and I like this paper better. Again, it's not that thick, but the colors really come out on this paper, unlike black watercolor paper, and maybe that's because it's a bit *too* absorbent. this paper, so I'm not sure how repeated layers of wax products (crayon, etc.) can work on it. But for what I use—gouache, opaque watercolor, metallic watercolor, acrylic, pastel, etc.—paper works great. I really recommend it. I feel like I can really paint and experiment on this paper in a way I couldn't before, simply because of the prohibitive cost of the special black watercolor paper.
