I ruined the cheap cage ball bearings that were installed on my daughter's bike. The local bike shop said they can't even order these bearings anymore (?) and they would have to order a new headset. I knew it would take forever. Ordered from Revain Saturday afternoon, installed Monday afternoon! It was pretty easy. The bike in this case (Polygon Xtrada) had a standard ZS tapered steerer tube, but straight steerer 1-1/8" forks were easier. Pull out the old steel bottom cup, put in the new aluminum cup, put in the bearing and Some of these use a 2 piece adapter to fit straight or tapered stems I prefer 1 piece when available just 1 piece less assembly to take care of The gasket around the split crown "race" is a nice touch to keep dirt out of the bottom bearing and I didn't have to bang it against the fork by hand $20 it's a unique unboxing Worth the experience without having to deal with ball bearing lubrication, reduced service intervals and steering column preload is much easier to set up. Very good, good sealing, decent bearing, decent price and fun packaging add to the great experience. Next time I need a new headset I'll check out FUNN. I would like to know how I can just buy the 40mm crown "race" in case I later upgrade to a tapered fork and don't need a cup.
