Review on πŸ”Œ Improved AmazonCommercial Insulation Tester and Multimeter, True RMS, CATIV 600V by Alejandro White

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great phone: Tester

Great phone with good build quality and some unique features. Advantages: 1. Handy insulation tester. It simultaneously displays the insulation resistance and the currently measured voltage. It can also calculate DAR and PI;2 automatically. Low ohm 200mA (50 ohm 200mA) measurement - useful for testing protective earth; 3. High-precision multimeter (I checked the accuracy of the DC voltage measurement with a calibrated voltage standard and got the correct 5 digits); 4. Power and backlight timeouts can be configured or disabled; 5. Very good price considering the features, accuracy and build quality. Cons: 1. The buzzer is barely audible, which can be a problem in noisy environments; 2. LCD contrast is highly dependent on viewing angle; 3. No connection to PC; for this reason, the value of the automatic data recording function is low; 4. No low-pass filter. Current draw: The current draw from the 9V battery is around 7mA by my measurements in normal multimeter modes except V when the draw reaches 12mA. The backlight adds 13mA and the beeper, when it sounds, adds 10mA. The low battery indicator starts flashing when the battery voltage drops to 7.05V, but the multimeter continues to operate without affecting accuracy until the voltage drops to 4V. This means that: - the device is conveniently powered by rechargeable AA batteries ;- the expected operating time on a single charge in multimeter mode is quite long, even with the backlight on. The average current draw in insulation test mode is approximately 35 mA at 50 V and increases to 100 mA at 1000 V. The current draw in 50 Ξ©/200 mA mode is approximately 150 mA (zero ohms - short circuit). It seems that both the insulation test mode and the 50ohm/200mA mode use switching voltage converters, so the current depends on the battery voltage (the higher the voltage, the lower the power consumption). Notes: The description mentions a carry case - this is incorrect, the case is not included.
