Review on Accurate Nitrate (NO3) Test Kit for Optimal Water Monitoring - Salifert Nitrate Test Kit by Ben Barrington

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Easy to do and read results! looks accurate

I ordered this because I wanted a backup for my API kit when the readings went off the charts (and hoping it was the kit and not my water. No. Water. Big water changes and it started scaling. Work in progress.) So this kit gave the same result as the API, but much faster and easier! Just 2 steps, 30 seconds of gentle rotation instead of shaking a bottle with a leaking cap to get the chemicals all over your arm like the API does. The flat base mounted on the card makes reading the color much more accurate than the round tube and guessing the distance and direction of the light. Yes there is good interpolation in the upper range where it is now around 70 but the apparent color intensity and hue is much better than others. The difference between 60 and 80 is not really critical information as both are "too high". The ranges converge at lower ranges where target values are more specific. My only suggestion is to laminate the color chart. I'm sure I'll be submerging it in salt water soon. (Unfortunately, before ordering this Salifert kit, I paid a fortune for the Hagen kit in my LFS. It's useless. The color of the resulting solution for Hagen is bright magenta, matching nothing on its pink scale on the thin paper booklet. I noticed that the color of this solution coincides with the Salifert scale. I poured about 1 ml into the Salifert bottle and compared it with the table and got a very similar result! Conclusion: the shape of the Hagen bottle and paper Diagram is worse, although the chemical composition can be consistent and accurate. It is impossible to read.)
