After looking at all the vises, I wanted them to be strong and last a long time. I've read reviews about it and there was some concern that you can't close the vise when you open it, which didn't really bother me until it happened. The vise arrived 3 days ago and I immediately installed it on my workbench knowing I would be using it this weekend. My son saw them and said he was playing with them and actually opened them all the way and YES it's true you can't force him to close the fuse. I figured what a waste of money so I spent half a day rebuilding this new vise. **** In this case, rotate the vise and loosen the rear retaining screw (in the middle of the back of the vise). Once it comes loose you can screw the bracket back onto the shaft and then reinstall the retaining screw. If I had to do it again I wouldn't buy this vise, you will want to unscrew it at some point in your life to take advantage of the full opening so be prepared!
