batteries required, 3 AA. As with any basic battery powered smoke/carbon monoxide alarm, the batteries should be changed every 6 months. Other than a permanently installed battery, I've never owned a battery with batteries (and usually have to buy a separate 9 volt battery). So for me that's fine. I only wish this information was included in the product description as well as a picture showing the battery lasted 10 years. As for the 10 year lifespan, that would be more accurate as all smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms should be replaced every 10 years. My plug-in CO detectors have an expiration date. It's smaller than a typical smoke alarm and I use it in my laundry room. I usually had a plug in the carbon monoxide alarm (because it's also next to the basement where the stove is), but the point is on the floor and in a narrow spot. Between me and my dogs, we've often accidentally stumbled upon this while unplugging. Installing in this area gives me peace of mind that it is there and monitors smoke and carbon monoxide. It's good to have several in the house, maybe different styles, brands. I still like the plug so the detector is on the ground but like the dual function for added security. There is safety in redundancy. The "Test" button emits a loud beep, typical of other detectors. --------------------------------- --- --- How to use: 1. After inserting the battery when the display lights up, wait 5 seconds, it will display a 120-second countdown, then it will start to work normally.2. To test whether it works well, after inserting the battery, press the "Test" button, there will be a "bee, bee, bee" sound, indicating the test was successful, it will keep sounding, remove the battery To stop the sound, after the test is completed, reinsert the battery, after a 120-second countdown, it can function normally again when the concentration of smoke or carbon monoxide drops to a safe level. You can also remove the battery. The Walkbee Carbon Monoxide/Smoke Combo Alarm beeps at 85dB/3m. When detected, it issues 'Fire' and 'Carbon Monoxide' alerts.
