Other than a permanently installed battery, I've never owned a battery with batteries (and usually have to buy a separate 9 volt battery). So for me that's fine. I only wish this information was included in the product description as well as a picture showing the battery lasted 10 years. As for the 10 year lifespan, that would be more accurate as all smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms should be replaced every 10 years. My plug-in CO detectors have an expiration date.
