Screamin Edge on first try

I'm definitely new to sharpening. A few years ago I tried freehand painting with little success, mostly using Spyderco sharpeners. I watched the DVD that came with it and was able to get a mirrored hairline in about 30 minutes. One problem that the pro suffers from is stones of different thicknesses. As you move from one stone to another, the scatter can change angle and create either a lot more work or an inconsistent edge. One way to solve the problem is to install a 5/16" drill bit retainer ring. A simple google search for "ege pro 5/16" retaining ring" should bring up a video explaining the easy installation. 1 star for the missing collar. I'm happy with the edge I was able to get , but I need more practice to get a perfectly polished edge and perfectly even bevels. I would recommend practicing with large kitchen knives before working with small knives that seem more difficult to sharpen. The stones that come with the Apex 4 Fit my EDC and kitchen knife sharpening needs and I don't see any immediate need.Switch to high quality stones soon.
