This was very important to me as it had to be used to make various toys for rabbits and kittens and a certain amount of it had to be chewed and swallowed. That something artificial was used to to process this sisal rope. It had a very strong, pungent chemical odor, similar to paint thinner or some other petroleum based solvent. Called their number twice, no one answered the phone. I left a voicemail to ask what their sisal rope was treated with and asked if it was non-toxic. They never returned my calls. Instead, they did they only refunded my money.I took that as an affirmative answer to the second half of my question.For mine Purposes this rope was unsuitable. For someone else who doesn't care what they can be treated with, this might be the rope. I might give it an extra star if I get a response from their customer service department.
