Does almost what I need

I have a Raspberry Pi at home to do my routing tasks as I need an inexpensive solution to connect different devices connect you don't normally use ethernet from Android phones and portable hotspots. I've been using Ethernet from the Pi and WiFi from handhelds, but due to the noisy 2.4, I needed a good 802.11n 5GHz solution with some beamforming options for everything else. GHz spectrum in my apartment building. I really didn't want anything to do with traffic, just a reliable hotspot. I considered an Aruba Networks AP-125 802.11a/b/g/n access point, but didn't want to spend the $700 price tag since 802.11ac is right around the corner. I made the decision and am very happy with it. It does a good job of controlling the 5 or so devices I connect to it and does an excellent job without getting in the way of other consumer devices I've been considering. My main complaint here is that I can't run 2.4. GHz and 5 GHz simultaneously. There's literally a hardware switch on the back for that. This isn't an issue considering I'm using 2.4GHz from a tethered device, but could be an issue if you don't have all the 5GHz hardware. (My Nexus 7 tablet is not, although for example my Nexus 4 phone is)

Pros
  • Perfect for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Is there anything I can add
