As the description says, yes it does get VERY hot if you don't move for a moment, but ---- it's BRIGHT! I have other headlights on my bike but if it drowns them out! I usually drive in urban/suburban areas, but some of my rides are on a VERY dark track and this light does the job and MORE! However I MUST turn it off for the inner city portion of my commute as even on the lowest settings it is too bright and blinding oncoming traffic/cyclists/pedestrians! This is a blindingly bright and useful light!
