Another multitasking

First of all - this is the lodge. This is cast iron. This is an American. Those are all good things. But I had to poke fun at a few apps that other reviewers have used for this handy little device. It's not the first kitchen utensil to put on your wish list, but it's amazingly versatile. Yes, you can put it in the bottom of the grill, place the meat on top and drain the fat. Yes, it is clearly a hoax. But I've also used it as a meat press - yes, Lodge makes a few presses and the other day. but at the same time turn the bacon on its head and it works great. I've also used it as a grilled sandwich press. Place it on the middle stove, toss the sandwich in the skillet or skillet, and then (using tongs or welding gloves) place this little trivet on top of the sandwich. It takes a little experimentation to get just the right amount of heat to brown the top of your sandwich. If you need more weight, pour some water into the pot and place it on a rack - the "legs" on the rack keep the pot from getting cold and your sandwich will be mashed up nicely. But the weirdest use of all time? olive pitter. No, I'm not joking. I made a salad the other day and wanted to chop olives into it. I grabbed a can of olives, opened it and found that my wife had bought pitted olives. I hate pitting olives but I started when this little stand and all these interesting holes caught my attention. I grabbed a stand, placed the olive on the end on one of the small holes and squeezed with my thumb - the rock popped through the hole leaving the meat on the other side. I grabbed a bowl, put a stand on it and immediately sorted the jar of olives. Tip - the holes are chamfered and the olives fit the chamfer very well, but they don't have any dimples either - turn the stand over and use the 'flat' side of the hole. That's all. A kitchen gadget with half a dozen uses for ten bucks. How can you go wrong?
