Great after some repainting

As other commenters have mentioned, Lodge seems to only beef up these items to prevent rust. Like all cast iron shafts, it is not smoothly finished. My trivet came with two very small nicks that were rusty. It gave me a reason to do what I wanted to do anyway. I sanded down the burrs on the front of the stand with a small grinder, then soaked it in vinegar to remove the rust. It was then treated with Easy Off Oven Cleaner to remove any spice residue. After drying, I applied a thin layer of…

IDEAL FOR HEAT TRANSFER WITH GAS (use as a diffuser)

Great product! If you have gas burners you know that when cooking, most of the heat is in the center of the pot/pan and this can cause the center to burn if you do this for long periods of time. With this support/diffuser, the heat is transferred outwards to the entire base of the pot/pan. Won't burn on low heat in the center of the pot/pan when using this trivet. It can also be placed on a small electric stove and effectively use a large frying pan on a small stove. I am so pleased with this…

check out the casting!

This is more than a meat stand. However, check it carefully when you receive it. I have 3 of these, so I noticed a bad cast right away. It looked like a piece of metal. It happens, but I expected qc to find such an error before sending it. However, Revane took care of it. They are also extremely useful as heat sinks under pots as they disperse heat. I sometimes use two for a large pan roast because the roast is too long. It will rust if not cared for. Factory coverage is not very good. I dried…

Another multitasking

First of all - this is the lodge. This is cast iron. This is an American. Those are all good things. But I had to poke fun at a few apps that other reviewers have used for this handy little device. It's not the first kitchen utensil to put on your wish list, but it's amazingly versatile. Yes, you can put it in the bottom of the grill, place the meat on top and drain the fat. Yes, it is clearly a hoax. But I've also used it as a meat press - yes, Lodge makes a few presses and the other day. but…

Pros

Cons
  • Long delivery time

For the price these are great cast iron heat spreaders for gas stoves but the typical Lodge finish always leaves something to be desired and requires pre-baking to cover the obvious was removed for reasons listed below. STATE IN THE BOX: For Lodge newbies, pre-seasoning sucks. It is plain and coarse, cannot be properly seasoned, and is only pre-seasoned with iron to keep it from rusting during transport and storage. However, once you remove their cheap spices, you notice real rust spots, either
