Participating in a project to repaint a steel security door. The door is not more than 20 years old, paint and rust are not suitable for the house. So before I applied the Rustoluem paint I wanted to get the metal as close to the bare metal as possible. Had to use different grinding tools to get the job done. First started with some sanding belts for my rotary tool (similar to Dremel). As you will find in reviews, abrasive belts don't last very long, even less than metal. So I went in search of flap discs with a coarser grit and a 1/8" shank. Spinning the tool at 30,000 rpm did a good job removing the paint. Yes, the paper tears on the petal wheel. Any wheel could It takes about 20-30 minutes to work, be sure to wear safety goggles to protect yourself from flying debris.
