I had incandescent lamps in stock about 10 years ago when they were still easily available because energy-saving lighting options at the same time everyone had defects that I didn't want to deal with. (CFLs contain mercury, and many of them produce a harsh, cold light. And LED bulbs were still in their infancy back then.) the light that suits me. I want something with the same quality of light as an incandescent bulb. Then a few months ago I tried these GE Relax LED bulbs and they come very close to what I was looking for. The color and quality of the light mimics an incandescent bulb and they do their job very well. I think it would be difficult to distinguish the light from one of these lamps from the light from an incandescent lamp. In addition, the bulbs are made of glass and emit light in all directions, just like a real incandescent bulb. These LED lamps consume less than a sixth of the energy of a 60-watt incandescent lamp with roughly the same light output. I was so pleased with my first pack of these GE Relax LED bulbs that I bought more and installed them in over half my home. I've been very happy with these lamps for a few months. But one day recently I discovered that they have a bug I didn't know about. A few days ago I noticed that one of my GE Relax LED bulbs was flickering (slow flickering, alternating from slightly dimmer to brighter). slightly brighter, maybe once a second or so). I checked other GE Relax LED bulbs in my house and they ALL flickered the same way, although they had never flickered before. (None of my remaining incandescent bulbs flickered.) I immediately replaced a few LED bulbs with incandescent bulbs because the flickering was annoying (again, incandescent bulbs didn't flicker). Then, the next day, the remaining LED bulbs stopped flickering. I can only assume that something was wrong with our current (voltage?) that day. But I wonder how often that will happen and if I can really rely on these lamps to perform well day after day. (Note: None of the GE Relax LED lights in my house have dimmer switches, so this cannot be the cause of the flickering.)
