We were replacing the pill CVS pill cutter we bought several years ago and purchased this one. We found it to be difficult to use. The top does not open up all the way so you need to be comfortable with that. I find that annoying as it makes it more challenging to situate the small tablet we have to cut in a good position. This is used to cut a small blood pressure pill in quarters for our cat. When we got to splitting the half into a quarter - it got even worse. This tablet we have to cut is small but the CVS cutter we have opens up all the way with the top part so it's much easier to position the tablet pieces to be cut. It also does a better job at cutting the half pill into quarters. This is a very sturdy pill cutter and actually looks nice for a pill cutter, but I don't recommend it for smaller tablets. It may work great for larger tablets that only need to be cut in half but you also have to know that the lid only comes up to around a 45 degree angle and no further. We just prefer the ones with the lid coming up all the way to a 90 degree angle. We find those more easy to utilize for reasons mentioned above.
