great for converting 220v to 110v

I was given this so I can run a 220v Singer Featherweight sewing machine from a regular 110v outlet. I don't know it had a 220v motor. Turns out it was imported from New Zealand and the previous owner just got a new cord and plugged it into a 220v socket to use it. Since I didn't want to use it next to the washing machine all the time, I figured a voltage converter would be the way to go. This was the cheapest I found and it works great. Not too big and heavy to carry around! However, it doesn't fit in a Featherweight case (not that I expected). Note that due to the frequency difference - 220V motors (of any kind) are rated at 50Hz while US motors run at 60Hz - the motor will run slightly faster. A voltage converter cannot change that, so you have to live with it. This is completely irrelevant for a sewing machine, but depending on what you intend to use it for, you might want to consider how this affects your machine.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • I don't remember
