For filtering under gravel it is too small to let particles fall through as the holes clog extremely easily. The touted sturdy aspect isn't true, flexible yes but to the point where it actually starts to flex under the weight of the gravel and the legs on the underside flex creating a sink for objects to collect or the movement of water under the grate stops. . I am very dissatisfied with this product.
