I've never been a fan of suction cups. This is my 4th or 5th vent/dash mount and by far the best. It replaces my newest mount, a Garmin air mount with a flimsy clamp arm. IMO what makes this mount good is its simplicity - the 2 strong tapered arms just clamp around the blade in the vent when you tighten the large easy to use knob. Once tightened it feels very stable unlike some other bindings I've had. Because there aren't all kinds of spring loaded clips and complex clamping mechanisms, there's less chance of this one breaking. The Garmin mount had a small hook at the end of the arms that had to be snapped around the back of the vent, making it impossible to use on a newer rental with very deep wings. This one doesn't require it - looks like it will work with almost anything. I like that it keeps my GPS above the dash and less visible - the low profile keeps my GPS close to the other gauges in my car.
