Our hearts sank when we learned that our beloved 8-year-old Golden Retriever had cancer. Our vet noticed a small tumor and removed it in a minor procedure, after which it returned as hemangiosarcoma, a blood cancer. We were offered 2 options. 1) get an ultrasound and see if it has spread and do nothing, or 2) give her chemo. We're not the type to want chemo for ourselves, so I don't want to give our girl that poison either. Fortunately, the results showed that the tumor hadn't spread, but there could be other tumors that aren't visible on the scan. Being on the keto diet ourselves, we know the benefits of the diet and that cancer prevention, if not cancer elimination, is the main benefit of this diet, so why not put our girl on it? Easier said than done. There are some great dog foods out there, but many if not most still contain fruit or some type of carb to tie them together. Fully ketogenic with added ingredients like turmeric, which is great for reducing inflammation. Just add some fat, we use fish oil, coconut oil and protein, we use frozen raw chunks from Northwest Naturals and get out of the way because your dog will knock you over trying to get to this food. I have never seen my dog get so excited and whine about food as when I cook it. 8 minutes to rehydrate seems like an eternity to her, she will lick her bowl all the way and then come back a few minutes later to lick some more hoping more will magically appear. Her attitude is completely different, she has a lot more energy than she has in years. We noticed that her buttocks bothered her for a while, very slowly and with difficulty getting up, like arthritis. Now she's jumping up, not slow at all, ready to play and run anytime. Remember that this is how she behaves after 2 weeks of using this food. Her next scan will be next month to see if her cancer has spread at all. If your attitude and energy indicate it, I would say no, we would kill this horrible disease with this amazing food and no toxic drugs, which the oncologist says is your only option. She whimpers impatiently to get her food and still plays with a lot of energy, it could never be said that she was diagnosed with cancer, we believe this food, along with the raw meat and vegetables we give her every day give, saved her life !
