OVERHEATING: Power strips and surge protectors

I had my Panasonic Turbo-Dry EH5101P hair dryer plugged into this power strip as I have done so many times. I've heard that small appliances can blow a fuse, so I bought this surge protector a little over a year ago. I also threw away the hair dryer as the heat was so intense I thought my hair would catch fire which was no doubt a major malfunction as this had never happened before. While this prevented a power outage in my house, I was hoping the power strip would turn off the hair dryer to prevent excessive heat from getting into my hair.
