Review on πŸ“ Efficiently Organize Your Documents with NeatDesk Desktop Scanner and Digital Filing System for Macintosh by John Clark

Avoid. Gently end desktop support and switch to subscription-only software

I bought this unit in 2012 and it was generally fine until Mac OS X 10.11.x came out. El Capitan has broken the Neat desktop app and the company has yet to release an official update. Instead, he released beta versions and workaround instructions for problems like hardware buttons not working. Using the Neat scanner became so tiresome that I just started piling up bills and receipts. To make matters worse, on March 1, 2016, Neat released an announcement that it would no longer support Neat Desktop as of March 31, 2016. This means that it will no longer fix errors and allow new downloads. If the previous behavior is any indication, the next OS update will break Neat Desktop, but the company won't fix it now. Instead, Neat requires its customers to subscribe to new cloud software. This is a minimum of $72 per year. I am angry. A few years ago I paid $400 for a scanner and software package, and now the company has the audacity to hold customers hostage with an annual subscription fee. I'm looking for alternatives and strongly recommend you look elsewhere.
