Review on ๐Ÿพ PetSafe Deluxe Telescoping Pet Ramp - Standard, Portable, Lightweight Aluminum Dog and Cat Ramp, Carrying Case Included by Scott Rangel

Revainrating 4 out of 5

They solved many of the problems people were complaining about.

I have an aging English Mastiff who weighs just over 150 pounds and is having trouble getting in and out of our 2007 Nissan Murano SUV. I bought this ramp because of the 4 star rating but I confess I didn't read the negative reviews until I placed the order. I read a few things that really bothered me, so much so that I almost decided to cancel the order. The ramp arrived today and I was so happy to find that almost every negative aspect of the ramp that I read about has been updated. Below I describe the complaints I found in reviews, some of which date back to 2008.1. The box it came in. A check revealed that the packaging was not strong enough and the ramp was damaged. Mine arrived in a nondescript box that was in good and acceptable condition for any normal non-fragile item. 2. "The griptape on the ramp's tread is of poor quality and too rough." I agree that the recording tape is pretty good, but I don't see that as a disadvantage. I think if the sand on the surface was finer the dog wouldn't be able to climb the ramp as his feet would slip off. I also saw a review that said grainy paper or tape would peel off. Haven't seen it anywhere on the ramp but time will tell. I think that could be dealt with quite easily if it happened. "The sides of the ramp have sharp edges that can cut your dog's paw pads." The manufacturer updated the ramp design to include plastic guards or covers, and the aforementioned sharp areas have completely solved this problem. "The underside of the ramp, which makes contact with the ground and the vehicle, has no padding or protection." The manufacturer has added rubber feet at the bottom at both ends. However, I found that when my dog walked down the ramp, his front paws would exert force on the ramp and his back paws would press against the SUV, and if I didn't hold onto the ramp, he would definitely slip and fall. dog with him. I am planning to develop a fastening system that will connect the ramp to the car during use. I think it will be fairly easy to use a cable and carabiner to attach it to the metal loop that latches the hatch door when closed. I may have to drill a hole in the ramp, but that's the hardest part.5. "Not wide or strong enough for large dogs." My Great Dane weighs 150 pounds. and the ramp seemed to support her weight and girth with ease. However, I completely disagree with the statement that this ramp will support a 400 pound load. I weigh 295 pounds, put one foot on the ramp and push down and it feels spongy and pliable like a mattress. I could see a mastiff closer to 200 or more causing some problems with this ramp. I also feel that it would be too narrow for upper size dogs of larger breeds such as Mastiffs, Danes etc.6. "My dogs won't use the ramp." My Great Dane, Maggie, tends to be reserved and shy around new situations, especially stairs and such. After about 5 minutes I was able to lure her up the ramp with some treats and some paw guidance. The ride back down the ramp was even smoother. I immediately picked her up and down, again with treats, and it was as natural as walking up and down the stairs. I don't have a ramp problem, I think it's lazy or inexperienced dog owners.7. "Daddy is too cool for my SUV" My Murano is a mid-size SUV and this ramp seems perfect. If I had a Suburban, Explorer, or something in the large SUV category, I felt this door would be too small and potentially dangerous for a large dog. I think if you have a big or tall SUV you should probably look up the stairs as you probably won't find a longer ramp than this. In summary, I think this ramp is great, if not perfect. It seems that the manufacturer listened to the opinion of its customers and fixed many of the shortcomings of its previous models. It definitely meets my needs and expectations. I would happily recommend it with reservations. Good luck finding an easier way to get your pets in and out!
