I'm glad I saw the reviews of these screws on some woodworking sites and decided to buy them. I used them to create a large workbench (joining 4x4 and 2x4). It's a lot easier than the traditional hex head bolts or carriage bolts I've used in the past. Although they say a pilot hole is not required, I have found that they are so aggressive when drilling that they can/will split wood if set too close to the edge. Pilot holes eliminated this problem. Other than this situation, they don't need pilot drilling. Their wide head eliminates the need for shims, saving time and money while still allowing for flush or even recessed head mounting. Would love to use them again.
