This #1 tapered drive center is perfect for my 25 year old Craftsman long bed lathe. The product is made of heavy gauge stainless steel and the bearings run smoothly and do not wobble on long turns. It is important to match the speed of the lathe to the size of the workpiece being used, otherwise vibration or scoring may occur. I use a "bezel" in the middle of long thin pieces once the basic round surface has been achieved on the lathe. This eliminates vibration and wobble and ensures a smooth and consistent spin. I always dab the morse taper with a few dabs of paraffin before inserting it into the tailstock for easier removal. After use, I store the center in a small cloth pouch with a silicone liner. This will prevent rusting of the housing and bearing assembly. This hard-to-reach cone was a great investment and definitely fits my purpose.
