Review on Dayco 89356 Automatic Tensioner Assembly by Jay Ngo

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Pontiac Vibe best belt tensioner

Picked this up for a Pontiac Vibe 03 (base 2wd) after the original wore out and was making noise. Revain was almost half the price of local parts stores and I got it in 2 days with Prime. My only complaint is that the "shock" on this unit seems to be a bit cheaper than the OEM unit, but I can't complain too much given the discounted price. the famous "marble in the glass" sound from the tensioner. I am very disappointed that it took so long. The sad thing is this is the same one sold in all parts stores. Updated 04/17/2012. About 4 months have passed since the first installation. The tensioner is now unusable. The belt squeaks constantly and the entire tensioner wobbles a lot. I had to go to all the trouble to get Revain to honor the MFR guarantee on this item and they will send me a replacement. I hope this is my first time getting a lemon, and I really hope this new one will solve the problem (at least for a few years). I have downgraded my rating to one star but will revisit if the new one lasts more than a few months. Updated 04/20/2012. I ended up removing this product from my car and found a "shock absorber" on it. the end is broken inside. It could barely hold its tension and when I shook it I heard all sorts of things rattling around. The replacement unit sent by Revain is working great so far. Hope it lasts longer than 4 months.
