Update: Smaller hooks are not suitable for small projects like amigurumi. The yarn seems to snag on almost every stitch which isn't great when trying to make a doll or small animal, it doesn't give a smooth finish due to the pieces of yarn snagging and pulling. The larger sizes are smooth, but some of the smaller hooks are coarse and will snag the yarn a bit. I've never used wooden hooks so it takes a little getting used to. The hook part is slightly longer than the aluminum one. I like them because they are lighter than aluminum or plastic hooks, so your hand doesn't get as tired when using larger hooks. Also, with smaller sizes, it's almost impossible to read the size of the hook. I used a very thin sharpie tip and marked the size on them to make it easier to see.
