This sharpener is a bit awkward to use. You need to hold the sliding cover and rotate the pin at the same time, otherwise the sliding door will place the pin at an angle and create an uneven tip. It is sometimes difficult for children to operate. However, when the pencil is properly aligned with the retracted door, this is a wonderful pencil sharpener - the pencil is very sharp after 3 turns and the pencil glides/spins without any external effort. As with any manual sharpener, removing all the shavings and pencil dust can create a mess - this problem can be solved by emptying the sharpener before it is full of shavings. Overall I had no chips,
