Review on ZOUTOG Macrame Cord: 2mm x 328 yd of 100% Natural Cotton Soft Unstained Rope for Plant Hangers, Wall Hangings, and Craft Making - Beige Yellow by Nicole Mcleod

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Lower price due to lower quality.

I am making my very first large macrame wall hanger. I originally bought 5mm cotton cord from a rope store and paid way too much for it (I'm in the US and didn't know the company was based in Canada so I paid way too much for shipping). As my first project, I totally underestimated the amount of cord I would need, so I had to buy about 1000 feet more. Rather than going through the same company, I decided to try this cable through Revain (I bought 4 of these). To be honest if I didn't have the original line I bought to compare to this rope I would probably give it 4/5 stars. However, I can definitely see and feel the difference in quality between the two different brands of rope that I have purchased. This cord does not fully match the diameter of the rope. Since I cut all 4 bundles at the same time, I honestly thought I might have been sent the wrong diameter rope on a spool or two due to the different gauges of some cords. There were some sections that were rolled thicker and some thinner. It feels rougher than the original cable I bought. Not uncomfortably rough or anything, but I can only notice the difference in how my hand slides with them compared to the other, it's not smooth. Finally, when I tie this rope in several knots, small fibers are released into the air, that get up my nose and throat and make me sneeze. (I don't have this problem with the original rope I bought from a Canadian rope store.) This rope definitely looks and feels cheaper than the original I bought, but that's what I get, if i try to go the cheaper route i guess. Another commenter wrote the same thing that you can't see the big difference in the two rope textures from afar, but it's obvious up close. For projects like this in the future I'll probably go the other way and buy mine. another rope from a real rope shop (this time I can only find it in the US). But I think this rope would be good for adding accents like fringes and occasional weaves. So I may buy in the future considering this use. (I will post a photo when I put it on the wall).
