Great thing!: Car care

The sun is just eclipsing the fiberglass surface. Add water, salt and dirt and you've got a fight. Trust me when I say I've tried many different products and spent a lot of money on them. My 7 year old boat ran and got lots of hot GA/FL sun. I decided that instead of paying someone big bucks to clean my rough spots, I would experiment first. So I took the side of my boat that everyone sits on, where the hose rubs and where the fish pulls out, and cleaned it up. IN THE SHADOW (gelcoat requires shade) I started by removing the scratches with wet 400/800/2000/3000 grit sandpaper (manually and with plenty of water) and then applied Mix 6732 with Random Orbital Buffer. This is the first Material I've found that actually works as advertised (note - work on small areas at a time, removing with a clean towel as you go; when it dries apply more compound and repeat the job). I handcrafted with Flagship Marine Wax (6332) which I've been using consistently for the past 4 years (and I have more expensive waxes that don't give the same results). Bottom Line: If you're willing to take the time and be patient, you can envision what your gelcoat might look like. BTW I wash regularly with Marine31 gelcoat remover/wax which is eco friendly and improves your finish. Good luck, strong lines!
