I have tried many food toys with my Ap and almost all of them were useless. Most food toys are either too small, too fragile, or too simple to work with such a large beak. I saw these sturdy looking toys and bought a range to see what my girl thought - this barrel was one of them. It didn't take long for her to get used to it. It's colorful enough to get their attention, loud enough to rattle around happily, and big enough to easily fit a whole walnut in its shell. I was worried the edges might be sharp, but she was fine. Anyway, her beak looks extra polished after trying to get in to get all the goodies I've been stashing. Their attempts to destroy it were utterly futile - the barrel had withstood the most brutal of attacks without a scratch, with all wing nuts attached to it. But fair warning. only a few weeks with these little ones and my macaw is already unscrewing perches, food bowls and anything else it can unscrew with its big beak! She learned how to disassemble, how to solve problems, and worse, she learned how to do it. Persistence. I don't know how long I can keep their growing splendor in check, and I blame those toys. I'll probably have to get more of these just to try and delay their inevitable attempt at world domination. Buyer warning!
